By Modena Fire Company #1 August 3, 2010 On Tuesday evening August 3 2010 the Modena Fire Company along with Engine 75 from the Mittel Steel Fire Company was dispatched to the Coatesville Scrap Iron on South 1st Ave in South Coatesville Borough for a reported Fluff fire.

Fluff is the finished product after a vehicle is scrapped it consists of foam, rubber, and aluminum broken down. To obtain the scrap metal from cars, vehicles are drained of fluids and dismantled and then the vehicle body is shredded. Metal pieces are magnetically picked up from the shredding pile. The waste and residue leftover is called auto shredder residue or auto "fluff."

The initial call was received by Mittel Steel dispatch from within the plant reporting the mold prep building on fire, Engine 75 responded and upon further investigation found the fire to be in the scrap yard and alerted Modena.

Chief Perine a long time employee of the scrap yard was first on scene with Engine 75 gaining access to the scrap yard and going in service with a trash line, Modena engines were advised to come in and supply Engine 75 and assist with man power. Chief Perine quick concluded that the pile the fire was in was not Fluff but was the raw material pile.

The fire was placed under control quickly by Chief Perine. All units were place available about an hour later.
