I am installing a new discone antenna in my attic and need to know if the cable i am using is ok Its radio Schack RG6 Or will I get better results with LMR 400 Have about 125 foot run from antenna to scanner.

AbsoLUTELY use the LMR 400. And especially if you are in an 800meg+ situation.

I use about a 60' run of RG6 with my RS discone (in the attic as well) and it works fine for what I listen to.

RG6 is for TV's and such. It's pretty high loss. At 125 feet, you will have 4.2 dB's of loss. Check if your antenna has more gain than that, otherwise you'd be better off with just a rubber duck. If you can get some LMR 400 that stuff is awesome. You'd only get 1.9 dB loss.

RG6 quad shield works quite well at over 100' and is reasonable in price, and has a lower loss figure than your standard rg6.
