Digital systems seem to have severe problems with clarity and doubling. Units on trunked systems cannot easily shift to "direct" communications. At any large scale incident, there will be many trunked units trying to access the single control channel. 800 Mhz systems require more tower sites than lower frequency systems.

On the other hand, if a fire department is able to use 20 fully repeaterized talkgroups at a hirise fire, instead of using one simplex channel, I think that comms will be smoother with the 20 channel system.

These radio systems are very complex. Peter S

whats this talk about a transition from 800 to 700 MHz? i thought 700 was Federal Assets and MIL freq's? who will get the 800 band?

someone told me also who is in the USAF, the MIL is about to get a system called "Quad Trunking" <-- True/Rumor or "DOESNT EVEN EXIST!"
