I'm hearing "Code 5" now on my scanner. Has a new code been implemented for law enforcement?

Don't know about there, but here in El Paso County CO, Code 5 means there is an active warrant for arrest. then they will use Suffix M for Misdemeanors, and F for Felony.

some south begen towns used "fourteen" for 10-4 years ago.
the idea is that they know what it means.
aural brevity !

Many years ago most of the southern Bergen County police departments with the exception of North Arlington operated on 155.73. Unfortunately so did the now-defunct Hudson County Police Department which must have been running 5 kw because they'd blow everyone else out of the water.

Anyway the Hudson County code for "message acknowledged" was 10-14; of course it had to be different from "10-4" as was used in most places.
Often this was shortened to, "fourteen." And I think some of the south Bergen towns would use it to bust the HC cops' chops.

The HC cars were numbered with a leading zero ("052"), I guess to avoid confusion. I remember "01" which I guess was their Chief using "10-14" the way the military would use, "over."

"Oh-one to headquarters, ten-fourteen."
"Come in"
"Are there any messages for me, ten-fourteen."
"Negative."
"Thank you, I'll be off the air, ten-fourteen."

Welcome to the ongoing disaster that is radio comms in NJ!

i will just say i use that in my everyday life after listening in up there for about20 years.
and it was more of an 'end of my message' as the FD repeaters would 'hang' for a moment.
"K"
