Hi

When I am listening to Columbus FD Dispatch on 10-FIRE, every once in a while the dispatcher calls a unit called "ROW 1". I know he picks something up and gives an ETA back to the dispatcher. But i dont know what this unit is for.

Does anybody know what this "ROW 1" Unit does?

thanks,
colin

ROW 1 is the drunk wagon. They pick up the drunk people and take them to a shelter someplace.

Every time I visit Columbus I tell myself it's not a complete trip until I hear "Columbus Fire to ROW 1" at least once. :)

ROW = "Reach Out Wagon". The service is performed by the Columbus Health Department, and is especially busy during the winter when trying to prevent human popsicles.

Yes.

Sort of. Still no antennas in the attic, but one temporarily in the office closet. Reception is pretty darn good even without an outboard antenna.

My kids both live in Columbus so I get to monitor Columbus Fire often when I visit. Always seems to be plenty of business for ROW 1.

Saw on one of the posts a few months ago that Columbus may be going digital in the next year or so. Hopefully, it will be a Motorola System. The Uniden and RS radios work great with the Akron/Summit County Ohio system here. Any rumors as to what's up with the plans? Think they might hook up with the Ohio MARCS system? Would there be enough room for a system as big as Columbus?

None of the metro areas will be joining MARCS, the MARCS system doesn't have the capacity in those areas.

Don't hold your breath on a change to digital anytime soon; it is dependent on getting sufficient grant money to do it, and the change to digital is Phase 3 of the upgrade project, which still has not completed Phase 1.

Hopefully, it will be a Motorola System.

It will. The plans are to upgrade the existing system.
