Howard Medic 65 was unable to contact CRMC in PG when treating and transporting an MVA victim this morning. Even Fire Alarm (AACO Fire) could not reach them by telephone....

Often times hospitals get very busy, the staffing in al lot of hospitals are low. The “phone” is usually stationed somewhere centralized in the ER and their “rings” are usually loud. Some also have actually radio base stations. I’ve found by experiencing this myself and a BLS provider that some hospitals have these turned down. Side note, there is a number you can call via phone that will patch you right into the hospital you need. I’ve done this when the UHF EMRC radio has been down in the unit.

EMRC was the initial failure route. Then they asked AACo Fire to contact them by telephone, which also failed. OTOH, AAMC also failed to answer their telephone this week. Also last week, a literal newborn was in asystole and an AACo Medic unit was attempting a consult with AAMC. Let's just say that the content of the exchange between the PM and the nurse on the line was painful, and the PM was clearly exasperated. I'm glad that Maryland has protocols that do not need prior approvals from hospital providers.

OUCH that is not good when AAMC does not answer. Also did EMRC ever find out what the trouble was?
I'm sure Chris was correct about Captial Regional - likely a staffing issue. My question is why bother at all to consult with hospitals if they don't properly staff their ERs?

It’s protocols to do so, if we don’t we could potentially loose our license and or job. When things like this happen we can say we tried as communications are recorded.
