Hi all, Having time off for the holidays plus some snow events means I have been listening to ConnDOT and here are observations I have made regarding talkgroup usages for (mostly) District 4:

5631: District 3 to Highway Control Center
5641: District 4 to Highway Control Center

Both of the above TGs were units reporting lane closures to the folks who control the variable message signs, and the voice on the other end was the same on both of these as well as the voice heard on the Service Patrol channels talking to their field units. I suspect Districts 1 and 2 use a similar set up for 5611 and 5621 respectively but I’m out of range for them so I don’t know for sure.

5644: District 4 Torrington area operations. Mostly talking about Route 8
5647: District 4 Litchfield County Operations. Heard this one talking about routes 4, 7 (in Mew Milford) and 61
5648: District 4 Waterbury area operations. Mostly talking about Route 8 and 84 west of Waterbury

Also lots of hits on 5642 and 5643 but not enough to determine usages. I’ll keep listening and will report back. I haven’t submitted any of this yet as I’d like others to listen as well to confirm my findings so everyone can benefit from having good info in the DB

Surprising with all the CTDOT folks that no one has spun through the dial and logged the alias for each group from a truck radio. The two guys I knew are long since retired. (If anyone has such a list feel free to private message me with it.)

Last week I went back through a lot of recordings from District 1 and found that the Electricians were usually on 5612, Bridge folks on 5613 and Sign workers on 5614.
However, most of the operations involve traffic patterns with the crash trucks so it could be that they are some sort of tac channels for such operations. One electrician's radio I logged 1300+ times and only a dozen are on a TG other than 5612.

That’s what I’ve been finding as well. With all the recent snow though I’m seeing some consistency as far as locations go, especially on the Waterbury channel (5648). That has been consistently referring to 84 between Southbury and Waterbury and Route 8 in the immediate Waterbury area. That’s why I’m thinking these talkgroups are used by the individual yards within the districts.

You may be hearing one of the contractors (Tilcon, O&G, Ducci, etc.) putting out patterns on the LAH instead of DOT. I don't believe DOT has any VHF-Hi mobile out there.

Limited Access Highway

Sec. 13b-27. Limited access highway. The commissioner, with the advice and consent of the Governor and the Attorney General, may designate a proposed state highway, or portion thereof, as a limited access highway so as to allow access thereto only at highway intersections or at designated points, when in their opinion such limitation of access would be in the interest of public convenience, safety and necessity. With respect to such highway or portion thereof, the commissioner shall have and exercise all the powers and authority vested in him by statute concerning state highways.

I can also confirm that 5631 should be changed to 5631 = District 3 to Highway Control Center.

Some others for discussion before updating the DB...

5628 - Already in DB as "Conn DOT D2" // Mainly crash crews calling out Occum & Tylerville garages which I have confirmed are in D2
5637 - I would now label this Conn DOT D3 // Crash crews referencing Orange and North Haven Garages which I have confirmed are in D3
5638 - I would now label this Conn DOT D3 // Crash crews referencing New Caanan garage which I have confirmed is in D3

The crash crews (which sounds like the convoy of vehicles with the arrows, etc working with road crews) will reference themselves as "<Garage Name> Crash Crews" making it easy to confirm what District they are working in.

I'm guessing there are two to three garages on each talkgroup much like cg and licpl8man shared above.

Ok, been awhile since I’ve gotten anything worth noting on ConnDOT but I have some updates to share. Turns out a district 4 supervisor goes to the same church as I do, and he was more than happy to give me some info on the talkgroups, at least for District 4.

Here’s what is now confirmed:
5641: My original guess was correct, this is District 4 to Headquarters
5647: Officially is Section 41 Maintenance
5648: Officially is Section 43 Maintenance

He said there are channels for electricians, lines and markings, signs and a couple of events channels. Based on listening I’m thinking that 5642 is the District 4 Electricians channel. I’m also seeing a pattern across the 4 districts. For example, there are 2 talkgroups already in the database for District 1 identified as District 1 North (5617) and District 1 South (5618). Looking at the above link, these are most likely Sections 11 and 13 respectively. TG 5637 which was earlier determined to be in use in Orange/West Haven is likely Section 31 Maintenance based on the info in the link above. If this pattern holds true, the assumption can be made that TG 5638 is Section 33 Maintenance. All the 56#1 TGs are the respective district to Headquarters, with the # being the district number. Does this mean that all the 56#2 TGs are each district’s electricians? Maybe. I can get District 4 across the Troop A and Troop L sites from home, and G and I from work which carry District 3 traffic. I’ll keep listening and recording and will see what else I can identify. If there really is a sold pattern odds are the holes can be filled in for all the districts just from monitoring the districts I can receive.

Can confirm with certainty that TG 5642 is District 4 Electrical. Heard them called out as such when reviewing last nights recordings

Listening to the broadcastify archives, TG 5643 is likely District 4 Bridges. Also, TG 5644 was previously submitted to the DB by another user as Line Painting, perhaps this is District 4 Lines and Markings. There’s no Calls Node associated with it though, so we will have to wait for it be active again

Because I have way too much time on my hands, I went back into the broadcastify archives for TG 5614, which is in the DB as District 1 Traffic Control. On 9/112025 between 10 and 10:30 AM (I just picked a random date and went through all the times) there is a full conversation discussing paint nozzles. This must be District 1 Lines and Markings…and also proves the TGID allocation pattern holds across the districts. This would assume the following usages across the board, where the # sign is the district number, 1-4:

56#1: Headquarters
56#2: District Electrical
56#3: District Bridges
56#4: District Lines and Markings
56#7: Maintenance Section #1
56#8: Maintenance Section #2

This just leaves finding the events and signs channels left to be found and identified. I’ll submit the TGs that the actual usage is confirmed and the rest as they pop up

I submitted the 5617 and 5618 based on plow crew activity a while back. Based on my notes of areas they talked about, and the maintenance section map, they line almost perfectly to section 11 and 13 as you pointed out.

Add signals to that as well…Signs, Signals, Lines/Markings is a single entity not 3 separate ones. Also plow operations can and do occur on ALL district channels when the need arises

Just submitted the following after confirming 100% their use:

District 1:
5612 District 1 Electrical

5614 District 1 Signs, Signals, Lines/Markings

District 2:
5622 District 2 Electrical
5624 District 2 Signs, Signals, Lines/Markings
5627 Maintenance Section 21
5628 Maintenance Section 23

District 4:
5643 District 4 Bridges

It seems the pattern holds across all districts, so I'd say it is a very safe bet that whatever channels are missing from districts 2 and 3 will follow the pattern as well. Although I don't receive District 2 from home or work all these TG's are on Broadcastify Calls and I was able to determine all their usages from there. I have my SDS100 parked on District 3 while at work so hopefully I can confirm the missing District 3 channels shortly. There are supposed to be a couple of event channels per district but I haven't seen or heard them yet. May not even be on CLMRN for all I know
