If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Are there any suggestions for a better than factory antenna for this DMR radio ? The enhanced antenna should have the same thread type of the radio . I would also appreciate any suggestions on a connector thus I can use my Diamond SRH77CA with it .
Thanks

If you use the Diamond antenna, be careful if the antenna is much longer or heavier. The adapter length will also add stress to the connector and can cause damage to the soldier connection or physical connector on the radio.

The connector you need on the antenna is a SMA female type. Check the online specs for the Diamond connector type, as I do not have one to verify the type.

I use the Nagoya 701 series and the thread depth appears to be the same. I can't tell much different with the stock antenna, however. Don't have a mono band antenna in my stash to compare right now.

Thanks, I was thinking about purchasing the NG 771. Anyone uses this antenna for the CS 580?

I have used the 701 and the 771. Both work well, but the 771 is extremely long. If the radio is going to be a desk/cradle queen, its fine, but if you are going to carry the radio and put it on your belt, it is way too long.

VSWR is the only answer. Even Diamonds for the ham band have VSWRs greater than 2. In my opinion an antenna with a VSWR greater than 1.5 is junk maybe tunable though.
