I have a Uniden BCD996xt and I am trying to connect my GPSand scanner to the Computer. My Question is ; if I connect the Scanner (Rear serial) to the computer via an Serial cable, and connect the GPS via the USB on the computer , will everything communicate with out additional softwear? Also will the scanner see the GPS?

No, you'll need software like GPSGate (if that would even do it.)

Odd as I never considered hooking my 996XT and Garmin GPS up that way. I just hooked the GPS puck up to the port on the XT and all was well after I set the baud rate.

Well, maybe on windows 7, but i can't get it to work on XP, so back to the drawing board. I thought that maybe freescan would see the scanner, and the GPS, and they would work together, (wishfull thinking). Guess it's back to the manual and lts of trial and error...heheheh

In my post I was trying to say that I didn't use a computer at all. I just hooked the GPS puck up to the 996XT and let it select and deselect sites as I drove. You don't need a computer unless you have some need for it other than to select and deselect sites and systems as you drive.

No, the scanner will not recognize a GPS antenna that is connected to a computer's USB port.

The GPS antenna needs to be connected directly to the scanner (through the rear serial port). The computer should be connected to the scanner through the front mini-serial port.

What exactly are you trying to do anyways?

Connecting computer GPS & Scanner

Ya, I know where it says to pu it, just trying to kill a bunch of birds with one stone, I use the computer maping softwear when traveling, and want to use the scanner and GPS along with it. Connecting the svcanner to the GPS means I have to have another GPS for the Computer. Surely someone must have found a work around for this, if Not here's another good project for either the maping softwear people or the scanner manufacture, to come up with a link for the computer, mapping program, and GPS ... Any takers out there???? Maybe the News media has a solution?
