Anyone heard of or used a mastic tape by 3M? There's two types - vinyl, rubber (and pads so it can be cut to size), 1" and 2" by 30' rolls. "Aggressively sticky...excellent water seal by adhesion...designed to self-heal if cut or punctured...for protection from water and adverse environmental conditions...seals and insulates." There may be better that some have used, but this stuff caught my eye.

Yeah this is great stuff but pricey. I have a roll that I'm going to get into when my regular stuff runs out. I've always had excellent results with the much less expensive "coax seal" type putty tape that is sold at radio outlets...even Radio Shack has it.

Good to know that RShack has something like that, never explored them for such. Me, I've rain, ice, snow, wind and all to deal with. Hate to get water into expensive cable even though they're jacketed connectors.

I use Scotch 23 Rubber Splicing Tape to seal my outdoor connections. The post here has some additional details - and opinions.

Very similar, yes, the 3M numbers on this stuff I mentioned is 2210 (vinyl mastic) and 2228 (rubber mastic). The 23 looks similar to the 2228 due to the voltage insulating properties. Where have you found the 23 available?

I picked up mine off eBay. It's somewhat pricey stuff when you buy it retail, as you can see here.

There's some listed on eBay right now. Shipping is a bit steep, but not too bad if you're buying a couple rolls and you can get the seller to combine. See here.

Ok fellas, you are mesmerizing me with the fascinating discussion! hi hi :) 3M makes so many such tapes this and tapes that.....all good crap. So I looked at what I have again at it is actually " Scotchfil " Electrical Insulation Putty (tape). That's what it says on the box. Black in color. It's a wide product at 1 & 1/2" x 60". Anybody on here could use it now? Make me an offer. Beavers are friendly mammals and this beaver will make you a deal.....'cause he's such a nice guy....er....beaver. Paypal ok
