Your question is not clear.

A radio converted?
An antenna converted?
A signal converted?

I think what wmbio is aksing if a specific radio can be changed from 800 MHz to 400MHz. The answer is no. There is a great differenc between 800 and 400 Mhz radio internal workings. However......and here's short story on a co-worker I had back n the 90's.
he had an MTS8000 (800MHz HT) and wanted it changed to pick up 400 MHz channels. I told simply it could not be done. Then he quoted the "Owners manual"...."well it says in the manual it can". Not trying to show up my co-worker (dept. admin over a radio tech) he argued and argued until we said ok, ok we'll take care of it for you. We found an unused MTS 2000 and switch covers, then programmed his radio for what he wanted. Case closed. I'd een him just recently which he rembered that day we did the "inevitable".

You are probably right, but it would be nice if people would put a little more thought into their questions.

869-894 MHz is currently allocated for cellular telephone service. Even if you could receive the desired band almost all carriers have dropped their analog service; not much of interest to listen to.

If the OP were in any way technically inclined he never would have asked so your responses whatever they may be will not be understood. Can you see the reasoning behind NOT answering such questions?

The short answer, depends on the radio. I know with some Motorola radios, if you want to convert the band like that you'd need to replace the 800mhz RF board with a 400mhz RF board, force a UHF codeplug into the rado, then retune and reprogram the radio.

Of course, this is assuming the radio is one that is hackable.

any better explained

what it is is that i have a scanner that will pick up the 400mhz band and im using the gre superconverter 2 that converts the entire 800 MHz down to a lower frequency(usual 400 MHz band and i was wanting to find out if it would bring in the 869 to 894 range that is blocked out in all the newer scanners

GRE Converter

The 400 Mhz to 800 Mhz little black box for scanners is no longer manufactured. It worked well in it's day. But even if you find one on ebay, it would be of little use as it would only receive trunking radio frequencies and you be lost in the jumble of conversation as you neeed a trunking scanner to put in the control channel as well as the correct 800 Mhz frequencies for the specific agency that you want to hear. The GRE Convertor was only good for analog phone evesdropping which no longer exists exept maybe in the Ozarks. Better to buy a new scanner, they all have 800 and higher.

Sure. The freqs. could be 424-449 and 469-499.
Or, to stay away from the 440 Ham band, 414-439 and 459-489.

Just a "note', years back when my city went to 857.4375 conv- and no scanner worked on 800 as yet i bought a "converter that ossillated at 382mgz, i then ordered a crystal for 475.4375 (i still have the crystal) and put it in a crystal scanner, hooked the little box to the external speaker jack (i think) and it worked great on 857.4375 until the Uniden 800XLT came out!!....
