I have ARC83 and Win95 programs. On Win95 you can't check for duplicate freqs. and delete them, you can't put the freqs. in any kind of order unless you take the time one by one, makes for a very long time in programming into win95.

With ARC83 you can do the above. So I wanted to sort and check for dups in my pro-95 scanner.

Win95 tags are first column then freqs. column, arc83 freqs are first column then tags column. So when I run check for dups and sort freqs in arc83 it will have both tags and freqs. so when I copy & past back to the win95 they will be there.

I run two monitors makes thing easier, so I fire up arc83 in one and win95 in the other. I start in win95 banks 0 to 9, copy bank 0-9, - 0-19 freq & tags, pro83 has 20 freqs. per bank, then paste them into Microsoft Word Spreadsheet or any other spreadsheet. Then you copy all the tags cells in the spreadsheet or freqs. cells then paste them into the right column in arc83. Once you have all the freqs. and tags from win95 to arc83 (you might have to save your files incase you have more freqs then the arc83 can hold) that's easy enough, once your done then run "find dups channels and remove" then "sort freqs. ascending or descending" then goto each bank in arc83 and if see if you have blank lines then run the "remove all empty lines" puts all back in order.

After you sorted and got rid of dups. freq. and tightly up each bank now your ready to copy & paste back to win 95.

From arc83 to win95 copy & paste doesn't work, "I couldn't get the spreadsheet copy to work" so I copy from arc83 freqs. or tags then paste them into wordPad/notepad, then copy from WordPad/notepad "do the tags first" then paste them into win95, then copy freqs. from arc83, paste them into wordPad/notepad then copy, then paste them into the freqs column in win95, make sure your tags aren't to long, or they won't paste into win95.

The problem with win95 when you highlight a channel the whole channel is highlighted, in arc83 you can highlight each column separately. before I figured this out when I copy from arc83 "tags" and pasted them into win95 it was fine, then I copied the freqs for the tags and then paste them into win95 they would paste over the tags column

This may seem to be a long process, but programming each freq. into win95 just takes way to long, this way you can copy many tags & freqs. at once.

There are all sorts of software programs, I just happen to have arc83 for my pro-83 and win95 for my pro-95, if you have one program that can run both your in business, but what I like about arc83 is the "find dups. freqs." and "sort freqs.". I looked at scancat demo, it will handle both of these radios, but I didn't find "find dups or "sort freqs. in this program. There are many files you can download for these radios, I did a few, these had dup. freqs. in each bank, who wants to try to find dups. freqs. in "max" 1000 channels, I don't, don't have the time, rather have there program find them and delete them then sort.

This might help some out here who runs win95, I figure it will also do the same with all the winX programs.

I agree that Win95 has some shortfalls. It would be nice to sort on ANY field, which would make checking for dupes easier. I've also found some bugs in it, but it is "free".

What I do is keep my scanner databases SEPARATE from any software used to program the scanners. In those databases I can manage, sort, check for dupes and lots more. When I want to upload I can copy and paste using the Windoze clipboard and use Win95 solely for uploading.

Since most people only load their scanners one time, it does not make sense to do what I've done other than the very first time they program an area into their scanner. But if there are significant changes, what I've done is one workaround.

Yes, FREE is still good!

What do you use to create your database?

When I got the Pro-95 RS programed it, after running it I looked into the programed freq. and did some checking, had many dups. and fire, police...ect .. all over in the banks. I wanted to put fire freq. in one bank, police in another, so on. This way while scanning I turn on or off banks as needed. Your system sound good to try once I understand your DB.

Code:
     A B C D E F
39.54000	Mutual Aid 39.54000 FM	0	D
154.77000	I/W Sheriff 154.77000 FM	0	D
155.19000	I/W Sheriff 155.19000 FM	0	D
158.73000	I/W Sheriff 158.73000 FM	0	D
159.03000	I/W Sheriff 159.03000 CT	127.3	D
159.21000	I/W Sheriff 159.21000 CT	127.3	D
458.37500	I/W Sheriff 458.37500 FM	0	D
155.16000	I/W Rescue 155.16000 CT	0	D

In the above saved Excel example, Column's A and C are duplicated for purpose of copy/paste into either ARC or Winxx. I use Columns A and B for ARC and B through F for Winxx. Of course CT is not used in Pro-93/95 so those would automatically paste in as FM and column F would automatically shift over replacing Column E in the same paste process. Ct is used in the Pro's-92/2067, 96/2096 and 97/2055, don't know about the 83 or 99.

The other ARC Columns need only the first line entries, with the rest filled in using the Fill Down feature. Trunking systems with ID's and Tags can also be used in similar fashion. A reminder here, if pasting trunking data from Win96/7 to Win95, set the bank in Win95 to the mode prior to pasting or the trunking freqs will paste as FM. The scanlist tags in ARC will require manual entries as will bank tags for both ARC & Winxx.

However, with Web Import in Win96/7 and ARC, the data is much easier to collect and then copy/paste to the free Win95.

I use just a PLAIN TEXT file. But I have fixed length fields for each element in the file. It works for me for many reasons; I am a programmer and used to ASCII text, I use an awesome (DOS-base) editor, and I have written tools to maximize my use of such.

Some people are comfortable with ASCII, some with Excel, some with WORD, some with other programs. We each have something that works for us; so just use what works for you. My point was that Win95 is good for communication with the scanner, it does not have the functions built-in which are needed to completely manage a freq database.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS.
