I see that in the database it shows Cortland County Fire Dispatch simulcast on 453.7375, however I have yet to hear anything from that channel. Can someone confirm this or correct me?

I haven't been paying attention all that much, but I do receive Cortland simulcast transmissions on 453.7375 in Broome County.
As I recall, mostly it's during the daily test. Maybe I should pay closer attention.
I have one system file that just has the Broome, Tioga, Chenango, and Cortland County simulcast frequencies.
But I haven't been logging them lately.
However, I'll upload a log file later that will show you how much (or little) activity there is during normal operation.

I don't pay much attention to vhf anymore but I'm pretty sure the only thing you will hear now is dispatch for paging/announcements.
And for some reason the 458 side has always had better/louder audio.

Hi AuntEnvy.
There's not much happening on that frequency tonight.
There's a structure fire in Norwich, Chenango County. But, nothing going on in Cortland County.
Since you mentioned it, I'm scanning both 453.7375 and 458.7375.
Time will tell. The scanners never blink!

Edit: By the way, I didn't have to go far to see the action last night.
There was a head-on at the end of my driveway.

458 is the link frequency at Virgil and the 453 is the paging transmitters for the minitor. I think you will only hear the alert/page on the channel. All other communications would be on P25. The paging was not part of the new P25 system.

I don't recall hearing much last night either.
I do know that I used to hear the 458 side all over CNY as far as dispatch was concerned. I never really bothered with 453 because it never sounded as good.
Closer to Cortland you could pretty much hear everything via a "re-transmit" system . I'm not technically savvy enough to know the proper description/explanation but (as I understand it) that's the basic principle. Each area had a uhf transmitter that re-broadcast the vhf-lo signal. An analog, lo-tech trunk system, if you will.
I think that's been put on stand-by now that the P25 system is in place but they still use it for paging fire calls and nightly announcements. If I'm not mistaken, it's on a timer of some sort...? After the tone-out and dispatch it shuts off and all other traffic is through the trunk.

That is true KB.
The only reason that Cortland still uses the 453.7375 UHF is for paging. If you have one of the new P25 scanners or listen to my online stream, you will hear the call go out but you won't hear the tones that they send out for the fire departments. Any time Fire Dispatch comes on the air, you will still hear that traffic on the 453.7375 side as well as the newer P25 system. I know this as where I work the owner has one of the UHF pagers for the local fire department and whenever dispatch comes on the air, I hear it on the pager as well as the online stream. You will only hear dispatch talk on it though.
The main reason for paging not going to the P25 system is that the tones are not reliable enough to produce over the digital system. So the talk group, 6030, that used to be labeled for Paging has been renamed to Water Supply Operations on the P25 system. This information was taken from an online document from the Dept. Emergency Response & Communications site for Cortland County.
The old low band system that used 46.080, I believe is totally shut down now. I know that they are no longer simulcasting on that system for paging and only use the 453.7375 freq for it. The system may still be in place for a backup system but I am not 100% sure of that.
