just an update....

i think station 16 in sjc is actually gonna be station 18. i watch the county commisioners meeting the other day, and they appoved the building of a new fd, station 18, not 16. they were talking about the new station being by stations 4, and 17, which is right where 16 is supposed to be. i just think they change the number.

If they change it to 18 wonder what they would do with the old station? I'll ask my buddy if I see him he is with 18 still I think.

no, station 18 was shut down late last or early this year....station 9 now covers station 18's area. there was just no need for 2 stations on vilano beach.....

Think 18 is a backup like Vol case St 9 gets calls left and right. I know 18 hasn't got calls in a year.

well, in the apparatus photo for station 9, engine 18 is now housed there, maybe its a backup out of station 9. http://www.co.st-johns.fl.us/BCC/Fire_Rescue/FR_station_9.aspx

We will find out if they use the old 18 tone for the new station.

I thought so because the radio ID comes up saying 1801 instead 0901.

How are you seeing what unit is keying up? Do you have a motorola radio or are scanners able to decode the chirp tones?

TONE A = 1 sec (IN OTHER WORDS, THE FIRST TONE LASTS 1 SECOND, THEN A FEW MILLISECOND PAUSE)
TONE B = 3 sec (THEN THE SECOND TONE LASTS FOR 3 SECONDS, PAGER/RADIO STARTS "BEEPING AS SOON AS THE "B" TONE IS SENT, IT DOES NOT ACTUALLY HAVE TO LAST THAT LONG, BUT TO MAKE SURE IT GOES OUT, IT DOES).

*****Note: If both tones identical, 8 sec total***** (NOTE THAT IF THE TONE IS A SINGLE TONE, NOT TWO-TONE, IT WILL LAST 8 SECONDS AS A GENERAL RULE OF THUMB, HOWEVER, AGAIN THE PAGER/RADIO WILL START ALERTING "BEEPING" AFTER JUST 4 TO 5 SECONDS, MAYBE LESS IN SOME MODELS).

ALSO SOME SYSTEMS USE A 5/6 TONE SYSTEM, AND SOME USE A "C" OR THIRD TONE, THIS IS A "COMMON TONE" AND CAN BE USED FOR A STATION THAT HAS MORE THAN ONE STATION, BUT THEY MAY SET OFF "A" AND "B" FOR STATION 1-A, AND THEN PAGE OUT TONE "A" AND "C" OR "B" AND "C" FOR STATION 1-B.

HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND, IF NOT, WORK WITH IT. PROGRAM A SCANNER (WITH FIRE TONE OUT), MINITOR PAGER, OR A TWO-WAY RADIO WITH "QUICK-CALL" , AND YOU WILL LEARN QUICK.
I USED TO BE A COMMS COMMANDER FOR A SAR UNIT, AND I DID ALL THE RADIO PROGRAMMING AND ALERTING, I EVEN HAD A RADIO THAT WOULD SEND OUT TONES OVER A REPEATER, SO I COULD DISPATCH MY SAR TEAM EVEN IF I WAS IN A GROCERY STORE OR JUST AT HOME.
I ALSO USED A POCSAG SYSTEM (ZETRON BRAND), AND USED A PROGRAM CALLED NOTEPAGE THAT WAS ON MY PC, IT WOULD DIAL INTO THE SHERIFF DEPT'S ZETRON SYSTEM AND ALERT THE PEOPLE THAT HAD ALPHA-NUMBERIC PAGERS.

THIS DOES SEEM CONFUSING AT FIRST, BUT I WAS ADEPT TO IT IN LESS THAN A WEEK.
