CPU and DSP firmware updates are done from the Radio Shack Pro-668 programming software. Click on the Updates tab. I don't know if that site is still active. If all else fails, you can send your scanner to Whistler for the Legacy Upgrade. They will convert it to a WS1080 and you will be able to program the scanner and update the firmware using Whistler 1080 EZ-Scan. You will be able to take advantage of the latest Whistler firmware updates. I have see several reports of better performance after the upgrade.

I Checked about a week ago and was able to update the database on the pro-668 software.

Let's hope that the firmware is still there also.

There is a standalone EXE for reflashing the CPU after a bad flash wipes out the current FW in the radio. I can't find a copy here but someone should have it.
That's what is needed to recover from a failed flash to a 668. It's the only way to recover from a failed flash on any GRE made or designed product once a radio is stuck on the update mode screen.

EZ-Scan will not help until you can boot back into a normal radio again first.
The standalone updaters can still see a semi bricked radio while EZ-Scan will not.

The Whistler upgrade is worth the cost. Not only does it add DMR, many of us experienced better P25 performance as well as an official Phase II update. It also makes the scanner eligible for factory repair if ever needed, and firmware upgrades are easier than the older system.

I'll second this. The improvement in my 668 was dramatic.

As far as the 668 standalone updater...I'm sorry to say that I had it, but apparently it got swept out with a lot of other extraneous stuff when I did some electronic housekeeping one ghastly hot Sunday afternoon this summer.

Considering he hasn't been on since his post, who knows. No one posted anything until nine days after that.

:) Looks like I'll have to send the member a PM (seeing as he hasn't replied). Just trying to help someone who asked for help 2 weeks ago. Onward, the help given to date has been 'update to a ws1080' OR my being told to consider this being an old post (if you think this is old.....). He isn't a newbie since he joined in Nov 2004, maybe he'll answer a PM? :)

EDIT: OK, someone else (moderator) might have to send a msg, seems I cannot unless I have a setting that prevents it (or more likely the member has a setting that he/she doesn't want any contact). Moderator? Will you ask this member (OP) if he wants help or not?

Well, he doesn't have PM enabled. Good luck.

He literally hasn't been on since the post in September. Plus, he has only one post in 15 years. PM won't be available until he has more posts.

:( Luck has nothing to do with it, it takes effort (ie the edit bottom of post 11). :(

:) Searching the site, I so far have been unable to find how to contact a moderator. Since the member isn't checking out his/her own posts I cannot nanny his request. Tonight I'll take out my old win7 machine and see if I can grab the updater. Sometimes, ppl don't log back in if there isn't what was requested in their original request. If I find it, I'll post it here not only for the OP, but for anyone else who might need it. :)

I still have the psr800 and I sent the radio in to whistler and did the dmr upgrade years ago. It still works good as it has been. I use it for dmr trunking for a power company that is on a Con+ and the uniden sds1/200 barely picks it up.

I have the file. I don't remember where I got it and don't know if it is still available. Any other way to pass it along? The zipped file is 3,521 KB.
