Hello. I'd like your comments on which radio you'd prefer if you were looking for an "all in one" portable. Basically an excellent AM and FM receiver. I also considered the CC2 or 3, but don't like the switch issues, which we all know still exist. Currently I use old Zeniths for AM, and a Tecsun PL- 880 for FM. But it would be great having a capable radio with both bands. I'm not crazy about the digital step tuning/muting, but could live with it if it's worth it for the performance. Or if the step tuning could be disabled. Your thoughts?

I don’t have the C. Crane but I have the DX-286. It has AM/FM/SW. So it’s a radio, period. But it excels that. Really really good on all three.

Thanks to you both for your replies. I don't know exactly what the difference is between 4.5 and 5 stars on Jay Allen's site, but if it's at least as good as my radios are on AM it's a winner! My best radios rate 4.5 on AM.

Do you want a true “Swiss army knife” radio that does everything, or a radio that excels at AM/FM/SW?

Mostly AM/FM. I haven't excellent AM and FM separate, but would like one radio that has both, if it's worth it. SW is ok, but looking for AM/FM with great performance.
