I bought the 436 a couple of weeks ago from uniden factory outlet. Boy do I have a lot to learn. Any way my scanner has an 8 gig card. Not that it really matters but curious if any has seen this?

See this thread:

The original spec for cards was 4Gb, but somewhere along the line, Uniden started using 8Gb for a while. They have now dropped back to a 4Gb card, which is what the product details called for. Your scanner likely was one of the units that had the unadvertised 8Gb cards, and it was swapped out when it was turned around for resale.

If you have not already, I'd suggest that you purchase an extra card, just in case. Many of the "problems" that get noted here in the forums boil down to corrupted memory card. If you have a spare handy, you can swap it out & see if it cures whatever problem you're seeing. I've got two 436HP's. I've had only a couple of card related issues, so with another card on ghand, I was back up in a short time after a quick swap.

I can't believe how fragile and problematic microSD cards are. I'm not sure what's worse, the card itself, and the sockets it plugs into. It's not just Uniden either. GRE and Whistler have the same issues, as well as Smart Phones, and countless other devices that use them.

I'm very careful with my electronics. I don't treat them rough, keep them clean, dry, not too hot or cold and for the most part, much of my equipment that uses them, remains in the house. I'm also very careful with static charge. I buy good brand cards, yet I've had several become corrupt and completely fail over the years, with very light use. I wished they would have used the slightly larger SD cards, for scanners at least.

Great advice! Because it's not 'if' but 'when' your microSD card will fail!

Make sure they are the high endurance type, made for multi read and writes. As the x36hp does alot of constant r&w to the card.

I agree. They cost a little more but it turns out to be a lot fewer problems. I use 'em in the scanners and dash cams.

Do you suggest any particular brand? Never had trouble with mine, but wouldn't hurt to have one in reserve, not that I would be able to find it if I needed it.
