Is Crown point and Merrillville now using same frequency? (like Lowell, Dyer, St. John) I programmed in Crown Point a long time ago and never heard Merrillville, I am now hearing Merrillville over the last few weeks on Crown Point.
Back in June there were a number of articles in the NWI TIMES indicating that the director of the Lake County Consolidated Communications center wanted to merge Hobart, Lake Station and New Chicago on one talk group and Merrillville and Crown Point on another. Many Chiefs were against this but it might have come to fruition on the 1st of January. I haven't seen any more news coverage about it but will keep my eyes open. I don't normally listen to those TGs so I can neither confirm nor deny. Hope this helps.
Definitely Hobart PD is on what used to be just Lake Station and New Chicagos talkgroup... I like this because I never heard Hobart ever before... I heard crown point on Merrillville and Merrillville on crown point. I still got both crown points and Merrillville scanning and they seem be on both still with some of each department on each.
So I'm not exactly sure if its a full switch over or if there simulcasting on each TG for Crown Point and Merrillville... But for sure Hobart is now on what was listed Lake Stations TG.
The talkgroups are patched. They are still technically on their own talkgroups as before however they are patched together so it is almost at though they are talking on the same one. That is why you will see a Merrillville RID on the Crown Point talkgroup and vise versa. Merrillville and Crown Point are patched and Hobart and Lake Station are patched.
