I have a sort of off label application for a tray like this. In short, I am removing the third row seats from my 2013 Ford Expedition and installing in its place a platform. I have been studying this on Ford Expedition forums and the solution is to build a 48 x 48 inch frame to replace the existing 3rd row seat and the floating floor of the rear compartment which includes the tire jack and tools in a very irregular area of subfloor. This would be topped with carpeted plywood . I have attached photo's of another guys work which looks like a good alternative. The only thing I would do differently are two large attachment "feet" that interfere with the forward space (first picture) . I would turn those 90 degrees to the side rails.
There is about 4 inches or so (guessing) vertical space from the bottom of the frame to the vehicle floor (the rear differential hump. I am seeing about 44 inches wide by 29 inches deep space to put a mounting tray for radios and accessories. I don't want to mount on the vehicle floor itself for various reasons including minimizing the vehicle modifications which will be essentially none other than antennas.
So I am looking to suspend a tray like these;
C-3190-F or
C-TTB-CVF (Heavy duty)
from the frame structure. Havis does not appear to have any detailed specifications as it is a "buy it, it fits your crown vic". But I am looking at the height of the mounting tray itself, the unusable space where the equipment bolts and will add to the overall height of the radio units I install between the tray and the frame structure. Also looking for depth of the mounting tray.
If anyone out there has detailed drawings of these products or can take a ruler and measure the moveable part of the mounting tray from the top surface where radios would mount, to the points below on the sliding bracket where it might touch the vehicle floor below. The Heavy Duty is probably beefier so having measurements of the standard would be appreciated as well.
I am open to other suggestions. Thanks
