Ok, I've been out of scanning for many years and I know much has changed.
We're cruising on Carnival Celebration in a couple of weeks and I was hoping to pick up some ship/port comms. I purchased a Uniden BC125AT, but reading posts here it appears it won't get very much. Correct?
I'm not knowledgeable in the newer digital/trunked etc. systems. Have the ships/ports gone digital?

I know it is technically not allowed on the ship but I have seen many people say that they had no problems.

Thanks!

The BC125AT is capable of receiving the VHF marine channels (analog FM).
As for shipboard comms, those are likely to be digital which the 125 is not capable of receiving.

I'll stay out of the is it allowed/not allowed to bring aboard discussion.

Carnival Celebration i
this ship is DMR , digital modulation so with that scanner you would only hear digital machine gun sounding communication if you were to tune into the 457 mhz fx, now upgrade your radio to a lighlty used BCD436HP with DMR key available for purchase from uniden and you are good to good, such a versatile scanner BTW, unless you are serious about scanning you could avoid the newer uniden

Yes - the Celebration is DMR, so other than VHF Marine and maybe some other ships that are not DMR that would be your target to listen to.

Great thread for that ship, be sure to read all the way through for a good summary of all the DMR freqs...
