It could but I would recommend getting a 396XT or a 996XT if you wanted to follow CSP. You would like them a lot more.

It is an older model. It does not do 700 MHz. It uses banks and not DMA. It only has 1000 channels compared to 25000. Believe me, you will fill those channels up fast when programming trunked systems. There are man other things that make the 396XT superior to the 296D.
