Back in the day, one of the early conversations as to why the SDS series scanners didn't have Bluetooth or WiFi was because of the RFI from the modules making just this kind of interference. This was well before the 150 and its redesigned RF section.

Good morning,

I swapped the SD card after the “digital hash” noise presented itself last evening.

The SDS200 been on all night, and so far this morning it’s working as designed.

It seems the SD card was the culprit…

Thanks for all your advice and comments…

I will continue to monitor the monitor… and will post with an update…

SD card problems can cause the scanner to do some strange things...
There are alot of threads here that show swapping the SD card out fixed a problem that you would think otherwise...

In many cases it is the filter settings that have been touched and altered and when swapping SD card you get a fresh new default configuration with different settings of the filters. Try the old SD card and just reprogram it fully with favorites as well as all profile settings that the new SD card are using.

Great info, I appreciate it for future reference.

To the OP, you cud do what @Ubbe said and try wipe and reprogram SD card and see if it works again. Just in case it was something, but sometimes it cud just be a SD card that causes the issues 🤷🏻

Good morning,

I reinstalled the SD Card I thought was the cause of the digital hash noise Monday morning. Note: The SD Cards I'm using are/were duplicates.

The SDS200 has been on since Monday, and no noise! Radio is working as designed.

After installing the SD Card, I didn't change anything on the card or the radios settings, figured I see if the noise would return, and it hasn't.

This morning, I did change the global filter from off to normal and I chaged one department filter from off the normal, just to see if I can get the radio to "act up".

Maybe... Just taking the SD Card out and reinstalling would have cured the noise issue?

I'll update again later today, or tomorrow...

Thanks again!

Sd cards can cause many different things. I have to replace mine soon. Have my fav lists all quick key and noticed when I turn a department off, it says it’s off, but continues scanning and displaying the dept that it said was off. After about 3 cycles of scanning it finally stops displaying and scanning that department.

That usually happens when you update your scanner and might have assigned a quick key to the two favorite lists, or copied a favorite list and assigned it a slightly different name. When I write changes to the scanner, I check the box to delete all favorite lists in the scanner, and prevents that.

I have done it that way since day one. I just checked the department qk in question and it seems to be unique and not being shared.

Not to derail the thread, but I suspect it's not SD card related but programming. If it repeats itself with a new SD card, then look into Sentinel and see where the issue is. Start a new thread with your issue if it persists.

Good morning,

My SDS200 has been on for some 24 hours continous, still no digital hash noise after swapping what I thought was a faulty SD Card back in.

Same settings as yesterday.

I only have two SD Cards for the SDS200, they were/are mirrors of each other...

I'm a bit perplexed... could digital hash noise been resolved by simply ejecting the Micro SD Card and reinserting it? That is the very next thing I will try if the noise returns.

As many have seen in my OP, initially the noise would go way by turning the radio off and back on, only for the noise to return after a few hours of runtime.

We can thank Ubbe for his suggestion, to explore this issue further, he recommended me to install the Mico SD Card that was in the radio when the noise issue started. I am glad I did because I was ready to "write off" the cad as junk.

Thanks again for all of your recommendations and comments!

Yes, could very well be. The contacts on the card could have started with a little corrosion, and just the process of removing and reinstalling the card wiped the contacts enough to make a better connection. My old HP1 had that issue from time to time in very humid weather where I lived with no A/C., and removing and reinserting the card a few times cured it for 4-5 months before it returned.
