I have two BC-780 scanners I haven't used for years. They were programmed with Butel software on an old computer using (I think an old version of Windows). Is there anything currently available to program with my current computer using Windows 11?
I was just going to ask the same question. I have a BC-780 that I'm going to use specifically for the air bands. I'm also looking for programming software. Basic programming from the radio keypad isn't to bad. The alpha tagging can be tedious though. Programming software would be a big plus. Thanks in advance.I have two BC-780 scanners I haven't used for years. They were programmed with Butel software on an old computer using (I think an old version of Windows). Butel's software for the 780 was 16 bit only. Windows XP was the last that supported it. If you wanted it under Windows 7, you had to use Windows XP mode in Win 7.Try your Butel software. It should work.
Have you started here?Ok, I down loaded the trial software but I'm not sure how to download RR data to Pro Scan to load the radio. Suggestions?
Do you have ProScan communicating with the scanner? If not, I would get that going first.Ok, I down loaded the trial software but I'm not sure how to download RR data to Pro Scan to load the radio. Suggestions?

ARC780 has since been discontinued. Discontinued: ARC780 ARC2 ARC3 ARC8000 ARC5000
Proscan supports the 780 for both, programming and virtual control under all modern versions of Windows.
No reason to landfill it. Still a very functional unit for searching, streaming, and other uses. Offer it here in the classifieds to someone for a good price (free plus shipping even) and it will sell.Oh boy. A $50 software package to program a $20, 25 year old radio. I was afraid of that. It's one of all time best analog scanners, it uses varicap tracking filters in its front-end bandpass, and usually go for $100-150 at auction sites.Off to the e-waste recycle it is then.![]()

I got the 789 linked to the Pro Scan on the computer and can use the remote connection. I'm having trouble connecting the computer so that I can download what's in the radio and then create a revised program for the radio. RMason the computer tells me I need to have an open file to download the radio's memory. I created a file but can't seem to connect to it. Ideas? It's one of all time best analog scanners, it uses varicap tracking filters in its front-end bandpass, and usually go for $100-150 at auction sites.

To confirm: Here is how to open a database from https://www.proscan.org/ProScan_Manual.pdfRMason the computer tells me I need to have an open file to download the radio's memory. I created a file but can't seem to connect to it. Ideas?
Before data in a database can be uploaded to the scanner or downloaded from the scanner, a database file must be opened.
Before opening a database, make sure the Scanner Type is correct for your model, this will ensure the right database format is used.
1.Go to the Menu --> Database.
2.If an exiting database has been created before: Go to the Menu --> Database --> Open then navigate to the folder, then
select the file, and click the OK button.
3.If creating a new database file: Go to the Menu --> Database --> New then navigate to the folder, type in a file name, and
click the OK button.
