For those that dont know, Dallas PD is about 800 officers short and crime has gone way up. Recently the Chief asked for assistance from DPS, Sheriff's office, & Feds. They have formed a large street crimes task force and are operating on DPD Channel 12 (special events). Last night there was heavy traffic with a dedicated dispatcher on on Ch, 12 (460.40000 - 173.8 PL)).

Lots of DPS unit in south and central Dallas making stops/arrests/checking gun serial #'s, etc. Ive never heard a dedicated dispatcher on Channel 12 except during the state fair and never seen DPS in south Dallas like this. I counted 16 different DPS units operating on this channel and almost as many DPD units as well as the DPS helicopter. They are saturating various high crime areas and arresting/stopping a lot of people. There was also heavy plain clothes surveillance traffic on the Dallas City TRS in these areas.

Its needed here too, crime is out of control, and much of Dallas is not safe. I run a business here and we have to wait an hour or more for a cop to show up to a 911 call....if its a routine call we sometimes wait several hours or even an entire day for a unit to show up. Glad something is being done and Ch. 12 at night is really fun to listen to.

Abbott did the same thing here in San Antonio last year after a large spike in crime on the East side area. A lot of DPS resources beyond extra troopers and DPS CID guys. A dedicated aircraft and an extra DPS helo were also deployed. Made some difference.
