Are all Priority 1 calls considered Code 3? I saw on the DPD wiki page that all cuttings, shootings, person in danger calls are considered Code 3, but I'm wondering if there will ever be Code 3 calls for Priority 2 like car crash or a robbery.

Generally speaking, Dallas PD does not always dispatch Priority 1 callls as requiring a Code 3 response. If the call has been holding for a while, because no one was available for an immediate response, it likely would not be dispatched for elements to use Code 3. That might also be when the ‘actor’ or suspect has been confirmed as no longer at the call’s address.

While not overly common, there are times where a call type other than a Priority 1 might need a ‘lights and sirens’ response. When this is done, usually the dispatcher will “notify a field supervisor” that a Code 3 response is needed or has been requested by another department (such as DFR asking for Code 3 for a traffic accident in a very hazardous location like around a sharp curve or just over the top of a hill). The supervisor (usually a sergeant, if a higher ranking officer is not ‘on the air’) will acknowledge the request, in effect approving it, or decline the higher response action.
