I was reading something about mutual aide in another forum and something from my years living in Montgomery County came to mind.

When I first moved to the area in 1985 (left in 1996) I recall a DFD station on Frederick Pike north of Needmore. I don't see that station listed anymore nor do I see it on Google maps. Did Dayton close that station, if so when, or am I just losing what is left of my memory?

Many thanks.

I think it is still county property but now used as a vehicle maintenance facility - no longer a fire station since about 2008 or 09 if memory serves me.

Thanks JD, I recall three stations in about a three mile stretch of Needmore. Two were Harrison Twp and one, on Frederick Pike, was DFD. When I first got to Dayton in 1985 I was amazed at the proximity of so many stations from different jurisdictions.

My favorite were (are) the two stations within 1000 feet of each other, one in Moraine on S Dixie and the other in Miami Twp on Springboro. What a waste of tax payer dollars.

But you also have to think that they are two different political jurisdictions that operate separately of each other. So with that Moraine put there's where they did and Miami Twp now the Miami Valley Fire District put there's where they did.
