I went up to the RS in Tehachapi, yesterday, and bought a DC power adapter, with multiple inserts. NONE OF THEM WORKED!!! Short of removing my scanner from the mount and walking into a store, anyone know what size plug I need for it? A? B? etc.................

Didn't they fit or did they fit but not work? If they are the kind that are changeable, you may have the polarity reversed. Most radios use center positive. If your adapter has multiple voltages, make sure the switch is in the correct voltage position.

Jaspence has the right idea here. Those 2 prong adapt plugs can be turned around. My Pro96 is a positive tip and I had the same thing happen when I didn't pay attention to it. It didn't work until I unplugged the tip and reversed it with the little + showing on top.

Sorry, that one's on me.....

They didn't fit, kit did not have the correct size. I've used the polarity types before. I pulled the tips out of the packaging, and tried them one at a time.

According to this RR thread from 2008 (https://forums.radioreference.com/radio-shack-scanners/91620-pro-2026-a.html) you need Adaptaplug M for the PRO-2026.

The Adaptaplug M (with a Navy Blue color ring) has an outer diameter of 5.5mm and an inner diameter of 2.1mm and can be found for $4.00 on the Radio Shack website here: https://www.radioshack.com/products/radioshack-adaptaplug-m

Radio Shack also sells a "Universal 12V Car Adapter (CLA) with 4 Connector Tips" which is on sale for $9.00 and it includes the A, B, H and M Adaptaplugs with it: https://www.radioshack.com/products/radioshack-universal-12vdc-power-cord

Thanks! I think I'll take my son (since his mother and sister will be in L.A. for the day) to Tehachapi for lunch, return a few things (while I'm up there), and pickup a new car adapter.

According to the notes in the PRO-2026 Service Manual (http://www.dream-machine.myzen.co.uk/Radio Shack - Realistic/PRO-2026 (SM-Addendum).pdf) the outer conductor sleeve of the power connector is negative and the center conductor is positive (see top right of page 3 of the referenced pdf file).

one manual i read said a 5.5MM plug size.
seems large, but who knows.

5.5mm is the outer diameter size of the Adaptaplug M that I recommended/mentioned in my post #5 above. The inner diameter of the Adaptaplug M is 2.1mm.

Made a run to Tehachapi, today. Returned the incorrect power adapter and a couple other things to Radio Shack, and exchanged them for a 2032 battery (I needed it) and the correct power adapter, the one you suggested.

"IT'S ALIVE!!!!!"

Now, to connect to an antenna and ext speaker, and I'll be in business.
