Below is a photo I took at PDK (DeKalb Peachtree - Atlanta area) of Flint 47 (N247F). Now you know who to look for when you hear them! Note the transit type antenna on the spine of the a/c and the ones toward the tail on the bottom.

Using stuff like that is the smartest thing they could do... No way most people would even look twice. Most of the other departments use similar bland aircraft. With a few exceptions for special missions and stuff.

How do you know that this is a DEA 'Flint" aircraft? I used to listen to them on HF frequencies 14.686 and 19.131 Mhz USB using callsigns FLINT, ATLAS, and SUNDANCE...

On 3-29-06, FLINT 47 did go to PDK for fuel (heard him state that to ATC on 126.975).

Another note, DEA moved their Air OPS from PDK to RYY (Cobb County Mc Collum Field) last year.

Nice picture Mike.

Despite my efforts, I've not yet had the chance to see a FLINT aircraft in the air. I've only had them be within possible viewing range 2 or 3 times, but still no sighting.

Looks like the rear left window has been modified. Has anyone seen the high altitude DEA a/c? I have seen it from the ground, estimated altitude 10,000 feet. It is a twin engine turbo-prop with some kind of pod underneath. Evidently it has some hi-tech optics because they can conduct the surveillance from that altitude. Heard them last year in the Birmingham area using channel 3 simplex. Had to get the binoculars out to see the a/c.

Back in the good old days of clear comms, I heard them following a guy from the ground and air one day. They described the car and were calling the streets, and pretty soon I realized they were coming my way. At first I thought it was a helo, and I couldn't understand how they wouldn't be spotted. But then the target car passed by, and sure enough, there was a nice new white van a few seconds behind him. Then I looked up and saw a single engine doing a slow zig-zag at about 6k.
