Either my radio has taken a dive and is no longer capable of receiving the proper PL or Dearborn PD has changed PLs on their primary repeater!

It seems really odd and impractical to do... but now I can only receive them with the monitor button depressed... it in a way is "depressing" *pun intended* because I'm going to have to figure out what it is and reprogram my radios.

Apparently this had to be done today because I was receiving them last night on their "old PL"... unless of course the situation is that their transmitter is out for repair and the only replacement is transmitting CSQ or something... I dunno. Someone in the general area should be able to figure out the new PL though...

Well cool... now to go on a programming spree... I wonder why they changed?

I guess it's time to update the database.

Dearborn PD and DPL

It was almost necessary that they change over to DPL, because the receiver was being hammered by "skip" from stations that still used the same 103.5 on their input frequency (154.77). The conversion should be complete by the end of this week.

The DPL 071 is correct on the output...(158.850)
It is also correct on the input...(154.770)

What's strange is...this morning, I was able to (while driving through Dearborn) monitor the mobile units on both the input frequency and the output frequency (DPL 071 in both cases), but I never heard dispatch...ONLY the mobile units. There was no other activity on the output frequency between those mobile unit transmissions, but the mobile units would trip the repeater and the repeater would retransmit the signal...but no dispatch! It was almost like there is another (actively being used) repeater setup for the same input, but yet the old repeater (that I was listening to) was also still working...like they're switching frequencies or something...

I'll be back in that area a little later today and will check it out a bit further...

Metal Man,

They are having to operate both the old PL system and the new DPL system, until the change is completed. The reason you might not have heard dispatch while you were in town, is because you may have been receiving a remote site that was transmitting the opposite PL? Obviously, when this project is done, everything will be on DPL 071.

Why did they change to DPL? Why not just a diff PL? I know Dearborn's repeater is quite old. It has a cool sound to it too.

Well, I'm not sure what exactly happened...but as I mentioned before, there was NO activity on the output frequency between the mobile unit transmissions, not even with open squelch...so different tones wouldn't have explained it...

However, this afternoon, I heard both mobiles and dispatch, no problem (all with DPL 071).

Oh well...I guess its all working now...!

Dearborn PD received a brand new repeater from Motorola, which replaces their old one that had too many years of service, and needed retirement because they could not obtain any replacement parts. Likewise, the DPL was intended to eliminate any skip radio traffic.

I wonder if they changed PL tones on their secondary channel, 156.150 ?

No Thunderbolt, the PL for 156.150 did not change. Its going to stay 103.5. There were no interference issues with that frequency like there were on 158.850.
