I was thinking of new toys and came acrost the MFJ-462B decoder for $200. The unit is supposed to be able to decode RTTY,CW,ASCII and AMTOR (FEC). My interested is in decoding military or utility types of RTTY traffic. Is there much out there that is not encrypted? Is it worth the investment?

No, I'd avoid it like the plague, frankly. There isn't much Baudot RTTY anymore (apart from us hams and a few aero stations); besides there are MANY soundcard based solutions that are far and away more flexible. You can start finding them by visiting this page..

HF digital is a niche thing - finding something that's decode-able is half the battle. Belonging to a list like the UDXF is a big help - otherwise you would find yourself floundering all over the place.

Ok thanks Mike. It looked like a neat little device but sounds like a big waste of money.
Im glad I asked.
