I work security at a place where we call dedicated transportation services to have cars towed from loading zones and residents assigned spaces. Does anyone know or can find out what frequency they use? I've tried google here at rr and even on the FCC uls with no luck. Thanks

Ask the Tow Truck Driver next time
See what make/model of radio they use
Look at the Antenna
Use Close-Call and ask him/her to key up the Radio

Might be a completely stupid question but are you 100% positive that they dispatch via radio, a lot of companies around my area use strictly cell phone dispatching.

Every time they come in I see them use it and while they are hooking up cars to tow i have heard it being used.

Well, in that case, if company name cannot be found in FCC database and you don't have a frequency counter or 'close call' RF capture, perhaps you can at least get the make and model of the radio they use, that can at least narrow down the frequency possibilities.

Many tow companies use radio site rental services like Comm Enterprises, Mobile Relay Association, National Science and Technology Network, or Nextel.

California Trunking Systems

If you click the link above you'll find the rental systems listed by city and site. I must warn you, there are maybe a half dozen or so systems in your area to go through. After programming them all into your radio it could months to successfully find the company you're looking for.

We are on a trunked system so having our frequency will do you in good without the tones. If I want you to gave it I will give it to you just call me and let me know who you are.

It is still a little odd that a security guard with a company we have such a good relationship with would want to go about this in that particular manner. I'm just relieved that I now know who it is and the nature of why you wanted it. You are just extremely enthusiastic about radios as well as light bars and dressing up your personal car etc. It would be helpful in some instances to have our radio live when you are out there but I just would not feel comfortable with anyone having it but us. Just as your employer probably wouldn't want us having yours. If there is anything you need other than that feel free to call me anytime.

If he is who he says he is he should know who I am since I've signed for the last 3 tows and what cars those were

We at DTS appreciate all the support we have been getting out there especially being a 2 year old company. Please call my office and leave your cell and I will get back to you during the week. Take care everyone.

Only here's the thing: assuming for the sake of argument that you are who you claim to be, anybody working part-90 legally is licenced through the F¢¢ and everything that J. Random Monitor needs to know to listen to you (licencee/company name, address and--yes--frequency) is on public record. Anybody who knows their way around the F¢¢'s mess of a site or is handy with the database search on Interceptradio (and others like it) can find it if they want it with a minimum of effort. Basically, if you're on the air legally, you literally have nothing to hide. Fact.

Bottom line, if you're really that worried about people overhearing your business operations, maybe you should consider migrating to a closed system like GSM/?DMA phones or some trendy new encrypted system, because in-the-clear two way radio obviously isn't a good choice for you/your organisation.

Not necessarily a fact at all. Towing companies, security companies and many others prefer to lease time on someone else's repeater or an LTR-type system that's licensed to the system owner, but the user/lessee is not listed with the FCC at all.

Happens all the time.

Bang on. Probably leasing radios on a trunk system so the odds of them showing up on an FCC search are doubtful.

Point is, regardless of whether it's on-site or outsourced, two-way part-90 radio systems (hopefully) are all licenced. The operators of leased/rented despatch services *are* listed in the F¢¢ database so after acquiring the list of frequencies, it wouldn't take much more that a bit of critical listening and sleuthing to reasonably discern what/who their clients are; even easier if the despatching service actually announces the client's name over the air at the beginning of the conversation adjacent the unit's identifier/number (I've actually listened to at least one that does.) Thus "richthetowguy"'s argument of "requiring permission" is for the most part totally moot. (I think this guy's really just a common forum troll assuming somebody else's name and not who he says at all.)

Fact, like it or not. But like they say down there in Oregon's Mexico, "like, whatever".

I didn't mean to be the center of a big debate. I understand listening to public entities and believe their info should be public. I feel for the private side people should have to ask.
