DENVER -- Denver police are looking for Hispanic man after a shooting at the 3rd Avenue Market on Wednesday morning.

The shooting was reported just after 9 a.m., at Third Avenue and Elati Street.

According to police, a gunman entered the store and shot the market owner in the mouth. Police identified the victim as Thuyen Tran, who has been in the country 10 years and has owned the store for three years. He was rushed to Denver Health Medical Center and was expected to survive.

Police said the gunman also struck the store owner's wife before running from the market, heading north on Elati. She was also taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic man in his 20s, with a distinctive bruised face, wearing a blue sweater. He was armed with a .22-caliber weapon.

Nearby Fairmont Elementary School was locked down briefly as a precaution.
