Greetings all,

I was having a look at the Diamond antennas website and noticed they have three airband antennas now.

The first is the RH103, which is a tiny BNC duckie like the RH3.

The second is the RH1230, which is a long airband antenna similar to the RH77CA/RH771.

Lastly they have a base antenna, the D777.

I am wondering if anyone has come across any of these antennas "in the flesh" or if they have any experiences with them.

Thanks.

I think the Airband antennas are a new lineup. I have a RH771
and I am quite pleased with it and use it all the time. I too am interested
in getting any feedback you may recieve. My guess is that the Airband antennas work just as well as my RH771. I wouldn't be interested in the rubber ducky Airband antenna though.

i have used the RH519 for several years. First on a BC245, then Pro95 now have it on my Pro96 and I love it. I listen to milair and our local police are on a 900 MHz system. It covers them all. It is so thin you can barely see it, and so light that it never makes the scanner want to fall over.

The best general and VHF/UHF airband antenna I have come across is the Diamond RHA-270. It is 170mm long and is great on VHF airband as well as the normal VHF and UHF traffic.

But back to the Diamond airband range... I am a big airband listening fan, so I am very interested in these antennas. The base model is of particular interest. Based on Diamond's usual quality, I would be expecting it to be a good piece of kit.

I was very interested in the D777, however I could not find any shops in they US that can get it imported for me. I tried Scanner Master and Scanners Unlimited.

From reading the Thiecom site (a German communications company) I got the impression that the D777 was not yet available outside of Japan. It might pay to contact Thiecom and see if they will send one to the US for you.

Diamond Airband Antennas

Has anyone had success in purchasing one of these antennas from Thiecom or elsewhere?

Thanks!
Mark

In the past a lot of these aerials were available under several different brands. Check the Waters & Stanton website as their own brand airband aerials were electrically identical to the Diamond ones....in fact several of the Diamond ones that were advertised for other uses were electrically identical to a couple of the airband ones.

Great HT antenna

Hi guys --

I've been lurking around the site for a while and finally found something to post about.

I have several scanners (PRO-90 and BC-396T) that I use to monitor the airbands, but I finally broke down and bought an ICOM A6 radio just for this purpose. Thinking that the included antenna was best, I tried it out and it was simply average...

Several months ago, I purchased this antenna (from link below) and no matter which radio (and despite it's size), it's the best aviation antenna by far that I've used. In terms of price and size versus performance -- you cannot go wrong. It is just amazing on the ICOM! It's only 3.5" and yet it rivals the included 8" antenna (why does this not surprise me however.)

That Diamond RH103 antenna looks very interesting. If we can ever get it in the USA, I'll give one a shot. Just remember, those tiny antennas are not meant for gain. The RH103 would be ideal at an airshow or next to an airport.

Thanks

Hi: Just to put my two cents in I have the ABV1 air frequency base antenna which I bought on ebay. I love it-it is fairly small and picks up military frequencies as well. I live 50 miles from Denver International and can pick up almost all the atc controllers except for two of the towers, and get all the smaller airports within 50 miles as well, including a military base. I was in Barry Electronics last week in NYC and they had the Aairband HT antennas to my surprise. SMA and BNC versions alike. I forget the models, but they did have them and they said they have a decent demand for them

Liam this should go to the Satellite forum - please don't hijack this antenna thread. Thanks for your future cooperation
