I live in Blaine, MN. What scanner would you recommend buying? Is there any radio that will receive the digital freq. that I keep hearing MN police are getting? Or will there be any radios out there that will recieve these digital freq in the future? Thanks a bunch. I want to recieve mainly police--what is recommended?
Regards,
Aaron Heit

The options are :
Uniden 296 and 796
and the Radio Shack Pro 96.
These all work on the Minnesota System they each have different features. There are discusions here and on the Minnesota Scanner site -www.scanfan.com.
These radios are costing between $400 and $500. From what I have read Anoka County will be switch all police to 800 digital by the end of 2004. Fire will be mixed with dispatch/paging staying on vhf but operations will be on 800.

You sure seem to have an awlful lot of interest and/or knowledge about the MN system and differing info.

This surprised me being that you're from so far away.....

Just thinking out loud

Well you are new at this hobby I see, so here is a couple of links to take a look at. click on the blue links and read away. One is right there in your own state.
http://www.scanfan.com/

http://radioreference.com/

That is how us folks know a lot about different systems in different states, countries etc.

enjoy

I own 6 scanners, one of which is even crystal (I know). So next time, at least ask how long someone has been addicted before we assume this is their first joint....LOL

My bad I assumed wrong

I guess the way you phrased your statement it made it sound like you were surprised someone out of state would know so much about the systems there in Minnesota. :p

Then you would know how us scanner nuts make it a point to learn about as much as we can on the hobby.

Knowing of MN Digital & Scanning

I use to live in Rochester, Minnesota. My son and daughter lives in Minnesota. I still travel to Minnesota alot. I try to keep up with the events
on the Minnesota scanning information. Both my son and daughter are
scanner listeners.

In a few months, the digital may be going into testing phase in Stearns and Olmsted Counties.

Southern Minnesota will be a great place to go scanning and snow mobiling too. :!:
