On my 536HP while entering a Direct Entry frequency, (CHANNEL, 123.45 CHANNEL) modulation should default to AM. Instead, ANY frequency entered comes up FM. The default modulation is correct for each frequency range. My SDS100 works fine on this. Any ideas?

Thanks. It's strange that it did not default to the correct mode for that frequency, unless you were inadvertently hitting that "Mod" option accidentally. You mentioned in your original post that the band defaults were set correctly. I have not used my 536 in a while, so I'm a little curious about why it did not default.

I think you're right in that I inadvertently hit the MOD option. The word MOD is so light on the radio, I didn't know it was there. Every frequency entered in direct mode, was coming up FM. Changing it to AUTO, allowed any frequency entered to come up with the correct modulation.

If you haven't programmed the frequency and just do channel+frequency+channel, that mod change will affect the bandplan and every frequency that use auto as modulation type that fits that frequence range of the bandplan.
