• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Not sure if you are joking, but NotaRubi is short for NotaRubicon. It is a GMRS repeater in the Riverside area of California.
Right, but that wouxun radio in the previous screenshot was showing notarubi in the display, and I commented that it's a Color choice on the 935G/ 935H . Not a Rubicon is also a well known Gmrs YouTube user. (y)

Noob here and first time posting so please go easy on me. Very limited knowledge and experience with radios, however I own a cheap Midland GXT GMRS radio to communicate with family in the area should there be some type of emergency.

We do regular check ins every few months to make sure everything is working order. We are only 1.8 miles away from each other and my question is would upgrading the radio to something that a has a bit more wattage improve the clarity? I get conflicting information but appears this radio model is 2.8 watts on high power.

We are in typical suburbia with trees and one story business buildings in the line of sight. Just looking to improve the quality of the transmission.

Thanks in advance for your time and help!
I assume that those GTX radios all have fixed permanent antennas. Others are right, if you're going to invest in radios. You should invest in radios with removeable antennas, such as the BTECH GMRS PRO, even though this particular radio it's supposed to have a removeable antenna, because Digital Data Rule.

an early review i read said they had glue around the antenna on theirs, but i've got four in this house and not a one gave any resistance at all. i also have this radio's cousin the Vero VR-N76 but that's sold for amateur use. if you mash the "battery status" indicator in the mobile app it will set it to "factory test mode".

i upgraded the powerbanks in my go-bag valets recently. ugreen has a very slim 25k mAh batter with three PD outputs and it'll fill my iPadPro, iPhonePM 15 in record time.
**just a reminder that many devices that claim usb charging because they slap a type-C port on it apparently save a dime by not putting in whatever is in a typeA-to-typeC cable that allows power to pass over it because a typeC-to-typeC off an actual USB charger will not charge the radio** i have a lot of gear (including radios) where you have to use an A-to-C cord from a wall wart, to charge off a powerbank, or computer's type-A port that way.

no doubt an EE or experienced ham will explain what i misunderstood about this but the end result is the same: don't count on type-C wall warts and break-out boxes and c-to-c cables to do a g-ddamned thing for you unless you charge off a computer or your Uniden in-dash unit with an output there.

amazon has many good options for 12'+ typeA-to-typeC cables. i get them braided with binders and color match the valets so at a glance i can see if it's ready or not.

You misunderstood what we were talking about. We were discussing muting background radio traffic on the same frequency, NOT trying to hide the transmitted signal . In other words, using CTCSS what it's intended for .
He didn't misunderstand, when they find your tone , it will be no longer muted.
