Are all the service types that you want to listen to enabled? Are you getting a strong signal from the antenna that you are using?

Question: Are you using these choices from the main database or have you created your own custom Favorite list(s) with limited sites?
I got it from the main database from RR & then avoided what I dont want to scan.

Just a suggestion to eliminate any interference in your location. I’m out of ideas as to why your scanner is only stopping on four departments.

If you copy a large system from the main database, it brings ALL of the system sites (potentially hundreds of them), along with the system. While you can select different user agencies and then either select or avoid specific talkgroups, ALL of the system sites remain unless you delete each of the ones that you don't want. The problem is that the scanner will sample EVERY site in the database until it finds a valid signal. That particular site may, or may not, be one that works for what you'd like to hear. In addition, it may take a long time for the scanner to sample those distant sites until it finds a signal. The solution is to delete/avoid each of the system sites that are not in your immediate area.

The more you scan the less you hear. Try cutting back on some departments and see if activity improves.
This was a HUGE issue for me. When I first started listening to my SDS200 I as astonished at the great "800" reception. I added so many surrounding police and fire departments I was hearing less and less because it was spending so much time scanning all the different frequencies.. Lesson learned!

I have a ton of stuff in many fav lists and assigned everything a quick key so being able to listen to exactly what I want is a breeze. Plus I have everything of interest being recorded via sdr software and another scanner with Proscan.

Yes! This is my issue. I have gone through & detail avoided everything. Thats not applicable to me. I can always go through & unblock some just to see if anythings relevant too. Just a long tedious process. Thanks you guys. This is all a learning experience.

My next lesson is to figure out custom scans. Cant I pick exactly what I want in them? How to i make those scan?
Quick keys are my nightmares lol

Custom scan feature scans a range of freqs that users can define. If what you want is on conventional and not trunked, you can hear it. But because its scanning a range, that could take longer than scanning what's programmed into a favorites list.

Does the Sentinel software do all of these things?

Which things are you asking about? Pretty much on the scanners that use Sentinel, all tasks (except firmware and updating full db) can be done on the scanner and in Sentinel. For things like setting up custom search, its much easier in Sentinel, but can be done on the scanner out in the field.
