Want to find a low power frequency at a local dirt track listening to track officials. I am assuming in the 450-470 range or maybe 148-174. What is the easiest for me to learn to do, discovery--close call--or just go to the full database, install service types-business-intinerant or something else I don't know and I guess a zip might be beneficial. I have learned a lot in the couple years about bit i need to know more. Most of the tracks that I monitor are 154.600-469.500-454.00-154.570-154.600-154.575-151.625.

Have you tried doing a limit search in the 150-152 range or similar in the UHF band while you are there?. Close call is an abbreviated way of doing the same thing. Limit search will also pick up signals that close call won't because of signal strength.
Your last item of picking itinerant frequencies will also work.

No I haven't tried anything yet. Close call might pick up too much like Weather etc. I can just try the database, I know how to install the frequency in my racing frequency favorites.

Close call won't pick up too much and as long as the signal is strong enough (thinking a bunch of portables here) it is your best option.

I have turned my close call on in car while I played a golf course so I could get the operating and maintenance frequencies. Left it on close call and store for 4 hours. Only the two frequencies were there after 4 hours.

Close call works on proximity and signal strength. If you are about on top of it and signal strong enough you will get. Only very strong signals that are not there will come thru on CC. You won't get weather channels.
