Here's one that has me scratching my head. This evening listening to Benton FD and Saline County SO, I opened up all the AWIN sites rather than just the ones local to my area. Normally, I have all the non-local sites "avoided" on my BCD436HP and everything works just fine.

So, when I opened up all the sites, I heard Benton FD Tac 1 attributed to the Wallace Knob site (170 miles away) and Saline County SO Dispatch and Multigroup on the Rich Mountain site (120 miles away). I was monitoring from Benton. Thoughts?

Any radio with those tg's that affiliated with any site on the AWIN would allow those TG's to be heard. There are only a few radios/tg's that are zone/site limited.

What is most likely happening is that those sites share the same frequencies as your local site. Very unlikely you are picking up those sites i n particular.

Little Rock Metro Tower has these in common with Rich Mountain: 856.18750a, 857.7625, 858.7625, 859.7625 and 856.7625. I'm sure Wallace Knob site has common channels to a local tower you can receive as well. So what is happening, is your scanner has those channels programmed in, the scanner stops on them. The name of the site is correct but since they share the tower frequencies with a local site you can receive the scanner picks it up from the LR Metro site but it is showing Rich Mountain. Hope that helps.

If he has whole sites in. If he opted to only have the CC's and ACC's... It could be due to weather. In winter during larger disturbances whacky band opening happen. Sometimes this is due to tropo ducting other times it only affects 700/800/900 MHz.... I myself was able to monitor up to 23 sites of the AWIN during "interesting" weather approaching, when I usually only got like 8 or so sites. Same with the analog Entergy TRS.

I think you are correct about the same frequencies used on multiple AWIN sites. It makes perfect sense. Thanks.:)
