• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Ehh yeah I don't have all that stuff. Well the service monitor specifically.

There is a chance that a reputable radio shop will still have XTS/XTL alignment capabilities on their test sets. Though we rarely use it anymore we still have it on our 3920s in our shop and can align an older radio in a pinch. As MTS said check with Sunny's.

We've used Sunny's in the past when the local shops didn't want to touch relic radios.
At the end of the day, when a radio is 20 years old and in a mobile environment, it's bound to drift and is tired probably time to look at replacement. With MSI dropping the hammer on 7500s, might not be a bad idea to track down an HP 7500 with VHF (they were even sold single band) and drop in replace the XTL. If they would have used the SAME DAMN BRACKET would be a 3 minute swap (of course doesn't apply to W series heads, Odyssey only)

Any shop that has APX 6x00 autotunes for the R8x00 service monitor should have Astro 25 tuning capability. Has to do with how Astronics packages tunes...single band Motorola versus multi-band Motorola.

Was the radio taken out of the old truck (working fine) and put into the new truck right off? If so, seems kinda odd the radio would all of a sudden drift that much practically overnight.

Anyone with a service monitor can quickly check the specs of the radio in about 5 mins. Regardless of having the software for auto tune.

Sent a message out to Sunny's waiting to hear back. Another oddity is that now that clicking is gone and P25 is much better now. Still have the out of range issue randomly. Wonder if it was me or if the county was having issues. Maybe both. I know when pages went out they were scratchy and even after "fixing" it they are still scratchy just not as bad. Now that I said something I bet my issues will return...
