How do I monitor the DMR-MARC and BrandMeister HAM frequencies/talkgroups on my BCD436? I have imported them for the database in a favorite list and I've never heard a peep out of them. I have the HAM service enabled. Any input would be great. I have every other DMR and NXDN system I have programmed in other favorite lists working flawlessly.
Thank you.
Mike.

Is there a repeater near you? What city/town are you in?

I’m in Markham. I’m sandwiched in between Toronto and Richmond hill.

There are 2 Toronto repeaters for MARCS and 1 for BrandMeister.
Mike.

I have found that Custom 1 is the service to make sure enabled unless you edited the channels to HAM as you entered them.

My ham favorite's list is setup with all the known TGs, but I have them set for ID scan for anything I might miss. That favorite's list works for the hardcodes channels, but as I don't monitor it much I can't say I have seen any TG not programed come up.

You might try setting up on each frequency one TG on each timeslot with ID scan set. Usually color code is 1, but you can set that to color code search.
First clip is right panel of HAM favorites.
Second clip is Carrollton TGs
Third is Carrollton frequency.

I'm not sure if any of the Toronto repeaters are still on the air.

Try listening to the LSR repeater on 443.5625Mhz. If you've got an outside antenna you should be able to hear it or you might be able to hear it while mobile.

There are a few DMR repeaters in Toronto on the brandmeister system. VE3NUS and VA3WIK

They are multi-mode so not only DMR but P25, Fusion and DStar

VA3XPR is/was on the DMR MARC network but the frequency has changed and they encrypted it as well. Its on 441.9375 now.

If you are a licensed ham you can ask the repeater owner for the encryption key.

MotoPragrammer,
Encryption key will not help Mike445 on his 436 as there is no place to load it. I curious, Canadian hams are allowed to encrypt their transmissions? I also thought DMR MARC was very specific about not using encryption.

I dont want to hijack the thread. I wish there was a DMR repeater locally but there is not but I wanted to throw my $5.28 worth in :).

Why would anyone want to encrypt ham comms. Many of us hams ( I am a ham and proud to be one) dont care if anyone is listening, in fact many hams are the first to complain about public service encryption. The fact the radios are capable of it is mainly because commercial units are being used. Whats next? encrypting posts in forums such as these?

There is already too much encryption and movement towards being encrypted why add fuel to the fire.

They won't hand out the key to anyone.
