• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

All G5 support Conventional DMR tier 1 and 2 only. No trunking.

No hardware change is needed. DMR is enabled by the G5 model number "67". If your model is a 64 or 66, DMR will not work no matter what firmware version you have. The current firmware V1.1 supports DMR if your G5 is a "67".

We have a utility to change the model number of any G5 to a "67". Dealers will be getting the utility and instructions some time next week. After that it will be on our web site for all current G5 owners.

So is my method of programming a "67" profile into my "64" unit not a supported way of accomplishing this? My unit now reports it's a "67".

Your G5 is still a model 64. Go to the programming screen.

I'm not going to argue with you, but mine shows to be a 67...

ETA...I'm a goober I guess. I looked at my box and mine has always been a 67. The profile I used to originally program it was from a 64 and I never looked at the field you mentioned. I'll go back in my little hole now.

Thanks for the tip re: the box. Apparently I am in the same boat as you - my current G5 (relatively new) turns out to be a 67 according to the box, even though I currently have programmed in it a file from a 64 I had a few years ago. Two issues for me, if anyone has any tips:

1. Any way to convert an existing 64 model PPS file to a 67 (where the radio is already a 67) so as to enable the ability to add DMR channels without loosing the P25 channels that are already in the file? I tried "re-reading" my programming from the radio back in to PPS, but it still shows up as a 64 file even though the radio is a 67.

2. So I tried to create a brand new PPS file. Interestingly, PPS doesn't have a model entry for my "exact" model (G5B67BF-SXVXEN1401UNI-0002-180625). There is an entry for G5B67BF-SXVXEN1400, though. Wonder what the difference is. Selecting the 1400 option does seem to make DMR an option.

Please test this as more and more systems are RAS enabled. Also, please consider supporting it and trunking; IMO I think we will see Capacity Max trunking systems (or other TIII systems) popping everywhere in the next years.

I don't think Capacity Plus systems are going to be going away anytime soon but that is a discussion for another thread.

Maybe a stupid question but I don't know a thing about DMR.
I do have a G5 dual band 700/800 Vhf 136/174.
Is Dmr Vhf or Uhf and will my G5 be able to receive it.

DMR, like any other mode, is not really tied to a specific band. Some basic info at Digital mobile radio - Wikipedia. The RadioReference database is a great resource - find your county, and look at the bottom of its page for a list of trunked systems.

Not my issue. Post 1 relates to how to change a 64 model to become a 67 model. Reread my post. As noted, I already have a 67 model. My question was only about changing legacy PPS files, not changing hardware models. Anyway, the above posts were great. Thanks to all for the info.

I see now Dan have you tried reading the G5 and save the file as a new file name?
Yes I tried that first. That didn't change the model in PPS, so that's why I posted. Webodisk's tip was good. Thanks.
