DNR has their own talkgroups on WISCOM but I rarely see them in use up here north of Hwy 8. I've only heard Forestry comm (mostly encrypted for some reason) and I've seen affiliations to DNR law talkgroups, but no traffic otherwise for their talkgroups on WISCOM.

The conventional DNR P25 repeated system (DNR Park Falls, Spooner, Black River, etc.) is pretty much DNR fire services AFAIK. Brown is used for state park rangers or maintenance at the state parks and about every state park has a brown repeater. I haven't heard any other color channels besides brown. DNR Law will pop up on our counties' dispatch channels from time to time as well.

The DNR Conservation Wardens are on the local sheriff dispatch frequency here (SE WI). I’ve yet to find any of the licensed frequencies active at the nearest state recreation area. They even have a tower. Can hear a repeater on Brown, but it’s for some distant state areas.

For SE Wisconsin, I have heard activity on 151.31 during high risk fire conditions. Most activity as mentioned are on local sheriff for wardens. The strongest Brown repeater in this area comes off the repeater for Kettle Morane in SW Waukesha County.

Prowisscan - follow up question on your post regarding 151.3100 for SE Wisconsin...

151.3100 analog with PL 67.0 (White Golf Channel)
or
151.3100 digital with NAC 822 (Dodgeville area dispatch)

WISCOM TG 631, DNR Incident Command 1 is normally active during sturgeon spearing season. I hear it on the Berlin tower, but maybe it's on some others also? Mostly different stations reporting fish totals and such.

I'll occasionally hear a warden on the local Sheriffs' dispatch frequencies, but they seem to operate under the radar for the most part...

FIREFIGHTING:
TG 611/151.355 NAC 821 Black River Falls Dispatch Area
TG 612/151.145 NAC 825 Spooner Dispatch Area
TG 614/151.310 NAC 822 Dodgeville Dispatch Area
TG 615/151.205 NAC 823 Park Falls Dispatch Area
TG 616/151.355 NAC 824 Peshtigo Dispatch Area
TG 617/151.145 NAC 826 Wisconsin Rapids Dispatch Area
TG 618/151.310 NAC 827 Woodruff Dispatch Area
I can confirm Spooner uses WISCOM TG, Peshtigo and Rapids use conventional.

613 Forestry
631 Incident Command 1 (used on Lake Winnebago/Poygan for sturgeon spearing)

Another thing I discovered about the DNR digital RIDs is, the third digit is as follows:
0-mobile
1-portable
2-base *
3-9 unknown

*DNR bases (ranger stations, fire area dispatch centers, state park offices, ect):
ABCDEFG
AB= 82 DNR
C= 2 base
D= ?
EF= County code (location of base station)
G= unique radio ID (could be more than 1 base at location/county)

Based on Radio ID 82xxxxx; DNR parks have assigned talkgroups on Sheboygan Co P25 system. They are 60506 DNR Kohler Andrae Parks and 60507 DNR Kettle Moraine North. DNR radios also show up on Sheboygan Co P25, Washington Co P25, Ozaukee Co P25, Manitowoc P25 and WISCOM (Dodge County Site). I know there was a discussion at the Sheboygan Co Radio System meeting that Sheboygan was requesting the DNR to give back TRS license blocks because they weren't being used and Sheboygan Co was running out of licenses (Motorola).

It appears they have a repeater on brown. As for activity, I have no clue. I would program all the color frequencies and scan those to see if there is any activity. They may not use the radio much if at all. I have only heard brown twice here at Copper Falls and no other color channels.

DNR fire dispatch is somewhat active however on some days. Most of the time it's just dispatch signing on in the morning, a unit doing a mobile and portable radio check, and then dispatch signing off in the evening.

I have heard nothing from there on brown. Only activity from north of there. Same for all of the other color frequencies. Might have to go there with close call or something.

Many of the parks don't even touch radio anymore. They all should have the capability to, especially on Brown, but any scanning of that channel around the state near state parks yields a lot of dead air.

A perfect example of this is Peninsula state park in Door Co. In the past few decades, the park went from base/mobles then to using a repeater to almost non existent on Brown.

Heard a reference to Red the other day for a fire somewhere in Bayfield county. They were trying to contact someone on Red and they forgot to switch off Park Falls dispatch. Didn't actually hear Red though since I'm too far away.

Just wondering if anyone has ever heard state DNR communicating jointly with USFS or other federal agencies in the 162-174 government band? Especially during fires or law enforcement in our state's national forests.
