Vote Scan Programming

I'll be honest I'm a radio amateur who was just handed radio duties for a medium sized department. I received the codeplug from another large department and am going thru CPS weeding out a few frequencies we will not need in our 8000,8500 and Next radios.

The question I am running into is vote scan frequencies. The codeplug has several different conventional personalities full of mixed vote scan frequencies. However when I go to the zone channel assignment, only one frequency from each conventional personality with mixed vote scan is entered. Is this correct? Or do all of the VS frequencies also need to be entered into the zone channel assignment?

I've also read something that all of the VS frequencies must be in the scan list, but have read otherwise as well.

If you work in public safety and someone's life depends on their radio working properly, you should not be coming to a hobby site to ask for advice on how to do your job.

Reach out to a radio vendor, assisting agency, or Motorola themselves for guidance on this.

Vote scan is complex, and can be done by entering the frequencies on the personality or via a scan list.

If you are programming for life-safety applications, which it sounds like you are, always think about how you’ll defend your radio programming if asked as part of a LODD investigation. If you’re not comfortable saying “this radio was programmed based on my training, here’s the proof” to a grieving family, get the training professionally to at minimum CYA (and better yet, to understand what you’re doing and why).
