    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value.     To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Do I need a certain flashcode to use P25 Conventional?

I am looking into an XTS2500 VHF with the FLASHCode 500008-00048C-7

Q806: ASTRO IMBE Digital Operation
H14: Enhanced Digital ID Display
H38: SmartZone Systems Operation
Q173: SmartZone Omnilink MultiZone Operation
Q361: ASTRO 25 9600 Baud Trunking
Q667: ADP Software Encryption
Q574: 9600 Baud Trunking


I'll be using this on more P25 conventional frequencies and maybe for a TRS (all my experience with Motorola's are on TRS). Does the unit have to be flashed a specific way to use a P25 conventional channel?

You're good. Also I believe on radios capable of P25 conventional up to the Astro25 series, if the flashcode begins with either a 1 or a 5 it will do P25 conventional. A quick way to know.

I have an XTS5000 with nearly identical features and it does P25 conventional just fine.
One way to find out is build a codeplug with a channel or two, then it works or doesn't.
Just remember that these Astro 25 radios only do p1, No TDMA.
