hello, i live in fremont, dodge county, and im curious as to why i have never heard a state trooper on my scanner, i have both a radio shack pro 83 and pro 76, i have the troop A low band frequencies programmed in, the ones for the mead, omaha, and tekameh's towers, i also have the remote Rf links, the 2 uhf frequencies programed in, (all of these gotten from RRs database) i also have 39.9, and i still have heard nothing, is troop A on douglas countys apco25 system? is my scanner/antenna just not good enough to pick them up? do they transmit really weak? is it maybe because im inside of a "city" and they're not? (even though often times they are) i really have no idea what im doing wrong, can someone give me some thoughts or suggestions??

No, they are still on low band.

Do you have 465.525 in your scanner? That is the mobile repeater in each car. I hear them when i go through Dodge county.

Also what type of antenna are you using?

stock antennas on both scanners
i dont understand the whole "repeater" thing.... how exactly does all of that work?? i know the dodge county deputys use something like that, but ive never fully understood it. i dont have 465.525, i didnt see it in the database, is it listed somewhere else?? regardless i have it programmed in now
is that just the frequency they transmit on? can you hear the dispatcher perfectly fine on that frequency??
also, for the low band frequencies i do have, are they all necessary? or is there only 1 or 2 of them that actually get used ?

The car repeater just takes their low band mobile to their UHF portable. It will repeat whatever it hears from the low band and then repeat the UHF portable traffic to transmit out of the the mobile so he can talk to dispatch.

All three base station have a decent signal in Fremont, but with an inside antenna you might not be able to hear much of them other than Mead maybe. An antenna outside would work much better for low band.

ohok, so i will only hear something on 465.525 if they're using their portable, right?? if so can i assume thats not exactly a strong signal?
also, as far as the tower thing goes, if i program all 3 towers into 3 different scanners (which i dont have) when an officer speaks, i will hear it on all 3 scanners, correct??

im kinda new to all this, but im a really fast learner, especially since i have a huge interest in this kind of stuff

You'll hear their Pac RT when its turned on and using their portables, but don't expect to hear them very well unless you are within at least two miles of an NSP unit, as that radio doesn't put out more than a few watts if that. If you hear something on that freq they're usually behind you and its too late.

They only use one tower at a time to talk back to their dispatcher. Its not simulcast at all. You can program all the freqs into one scanner and you'll hear them. Don't expect to hear the cars or units unless you have a real antenna for low-band. You should hear the towers better since they have the advantage.
