The three-letter codes are ICAO and are rarely seen on ACARS. The two-letter codes are IATA.

I compiled a crossover list for one of the ACARS programs that I have used. Maybe I should put it into the Wiki - is there a list there already?

Ah IATA! That's right! Thanks for the help!

Looks like there is an Atlantic Southeast pilot getting creative.
5986MEOW
6120F UCK
and today NASA

Also noticing a lot of these Atlantic Southeast flights adding AC and ACEY to their flight IDs now. Only problem is that they should be using ASQ

The reason for this is due to the recent merger of ASA and expressjet airlines. After the operating certifics were merged, flights operated by expressjet airlines swiched callsigns from "jetlink" to "ACEY" or "ASEE".

Where your flyen along-flyen along, making radio calls, you look at the TCAS/transponder display on the radio management unit to remember your flight number(this is where what ever your seeing on your screen is changed/displayed in the cockpit)....by adding the AC or ACEY to it, the expressjet crews are reminded of the new callsign...a hard habit to break after years of listening to the old one.

Anyone notice you don't see the crazy callsigns anymore? I usually only see SKW with @@@@@@ now, except for the infrequent MEOWMEOW.

I believe I saw a version of Happy Birthday the other day, but overall I'd say the odd flight numbers are less frequent.

* I see that meowmeow in flight now.

Hey Bill, or anyone, you know the GOTOFMS flights, I'm presuming are the refueling aircraft. Does anyone know what GOTOFMS means? I can guess, but just wondering.

" GOTO FMS " means GOTO Fleet Maintenance Symposium.
The callsign GOTO FMS normally indicates a USN E-6B Mercury.

Yeah the GOTOFMS are 99.9% always the E-6's. Travis has a few stationed there.

On a side note, SWA and ASA have a few ADSB aircraft now. Great for me since lots of them in and out of the bay area a lot.

Unfortunately, SWA crews do not input complete flight numbers into the transponders.

AirTrans aren't using SWA flight numbers so it's still a separate entity, can't include those just yet.

I know I am resurrecting an old thread but I saw my first funny callsign today monitoring ADS-B:

494DUDE

It was Delta flight 494 (N3772H) into JFK this afternoon.

I do occasionally see "GOTO FMS" and "00000000" but never any humorous ones here in the NYC metro area.
