• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Does Kenwood have an All-Band portable?

Looking for something similar to the Motorola APX8000 portables that support VHF, UHF, and 700/800 MHz. I like how Kenwood portables such as the NX-5200 can support multiple protocols such as P25, DMR, NXDN, and Analog but what about multiple band splits?

Not anytime soon, the viking VP8000 just released. Kenwood has been getting flooded with said requests.
When you say just released. Does this mean it is now available for purchase?

As of about a week ago my vendor can now quote the VP8000 but I was told it wouldn't be available for a few more months.

VP8000 is projected to be available March of 2023. I as a dealer will get my demo units sometime between Dec 2022 and March 2023.

If you are familiar with the Viking VP6000 series radio, the new VP8000 is similar to that. I was lucky enough to hold one at a Kenwood Conference in June. It is slightly larger in length and width at the top to accommodate the 4 line top screen. It will use the same battery, charger and belt clip as the NX-5000 series/VP-6000 series radios. While it will be capable of DMR, that option will not be available when it is released but will have a firmware update down the road to include DMR.

There is a preliminary product sheet for the VP8000 now available in the dealer site.

old thread, but adding a little more information to this,
The VP8000 is able to have Multi Band P25 Trunking Control Channels (VHF/UHF/700-800) within a single list.
Radio has been vetted with several Multi band trunk systems already and approved for use.

They have been in stock for months now. For some reason they haven't been shipping them.

Is there an estimate of what the price would be for this radio?
I'm interested in this as well.
