Ranger are helicopters. King Air 1 & 2 are fixed wing. I *think* Ranger 52 is the Kingman helo. AKA "Western Air Rescue" and "Kingman Ranger".

Here's a nice pic of Ranger 52:
Arizona DPS Bell 407 N52AZ 'Ranger 52' | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
Unfortunately I don't know where it's based.
Ranger 41 is based at Phoenix Fire Station 41, at 2501 W Morningside Dr,
on the east side of I-17 between Bell & Union Hills.

With that logic, it seems like Ranger 52 would be at either Phoenix Fire
Station 52 or Glendale's Station 152 (formerly 52), but that doesn't seem
to be the case.

From what I can tell, DPS operates 4 Air Rescue units:
Northern (Flagstaff)
Western (Kingman)
Central (Phoenix)
Southern (Tucson)

What MIB said makes sense, I just can't confirm it.

Ranger 52 is based in Kingman at Kingman Regional Hospital. They do fly into other states occasionally since California and Nevada and Utah are so close to us here in Mohave County. I'm not sure about the other rangers but Kingman ranger now days does mostly LE missions. They haven't had many nurses jump through the DPS hoops to fly. This has dropped the medical missions they fly in the past 10 years. They do still have flight medic's on there. I have a long time friend who is a medic on Kingman ranger. In our are we also use them for bucket work on wildland fires such as the Dean Peak fire burning now.

Ranger 38 is/was either the Flagstaff or Tucson Ranger. I *think* the numbering was from their original tail numbers. Do a web search on DPS Ranger helicopters, you should be able to find more details, including pics.

The numbering is indeed from the tail number. When Kingman ranger was a Bell 207 it was Ranger 33.

They will use either Statewide, or the district channel for the area they're in. Just like any ground unit will.
N41AZ was an 80's era Bell 206-L3. N42AZ is an '06 or '07 Bell 407. Both ID'd as Ranger 41.
58 is Flagstaff, 52 is Kingman, 38 is Tucson?
