I've never heard of that before either, I asked and it stands for Highway Safety Operations Center, nobody in here knows much about what they do specifically. One of the Troops said they do intelligence type work but still doesn't know much.

I looked it up via the link that nd5y gave and the HSOC is a stationary center that collects info like HPD's Command Center. 8Hxx units are definitely detectives and I believe RETLE was right when he said they're Rangers, which is what I always though they were in the first place. I heard an 8Hxx unit doing surveillance and recovering a stolen vehicle on Houston DPS the other day, and I hear them on DPS channels around the state. They're definitely mobile and not some kind of stationary command center.
Well you all inspired me to pull up my Unitrunker logs and see what I had logged in the 5m series RIDs . I have several 8000 units logged in the 5m RIDs and all are on the NTIRN INTEROP talkgroups, usually associated with other TxDPS CLE units. Usually working a surveillance or other fugitive task force operation. Hope this narrows it down some.

8000 units are definitely CID. The controversy is swirling around what 8Hxx units are. RETLE and I say they're Rangers. I'm almost sure that's what they are. 8000 units and 8Hxx units operate statewide, and I've heard them on DPS channels all over the state.
